PET/CT PSMA Prostate Cancer

PSMA PET/CT SCAN

A Gallium PSMA PET/CT scan is a special test that helps doctors look at a person’s prostate gland and see if there are any signs of cancer in the gland or the body. It’s like taking a picture of the inside of the body. The test uses a special kind of substance called Gallium PSMA. When it is injected into the body, it travels to the prostate gland and sticks to the cancer cells there and elsewhere, making them easier to see in the pictures.

The test is called a PET/CT scan because it combines two different types of pictures: PET and CT. The PET part of the test shows where the cancer cells are in the body, while the CT part shows what the body looks like on the inside. This helps the doctors get a better idea of how the cancer is growing and where it might be spreading.
